Paralegal

The role of a Paralegal is to work with the supervising partner in providing to clients legal services of the highest professional standard, within the timescales required and having due regard to cost effectiveness, with a view to achieving the client’s stated objectives.

 

MANAGING WORK

Responsibilities:

 

  • To understand legal principles and develop the skill of applying those principles correctly to a given set of facts.

  • To undertake research thoroughly and accurately.

  • To draft in a concise and logical manner, both when creating and revising letters and documents, accurately reflecting the client’s instructions and protecting the client’s position.

  • To communicate clearly.

  • To prioritise work-load and social life in order to meet deadlines.

  • To achieve accuracy of detail and good presentation of work.

  • To work on own initiative, whilst keeping supervising partner informed of developments.

  • To adapt skills to changing business requirements.

  • To anticipate the requirements of a particular matter and plan resources and take action accordingly.

  • To achieve the client’s objectives in a cost-effective manner within the ambit of the firm’s procedures, maintaining high professional and ethical standards at all times.

  • To maintain neat and orderly file records and work areas.

  • To abide by office policies and procedures.

 

MANAGING PEOPLE

Responsibilities:

  • To establish a good working relationship with clients and other professionals, displaying courtesy and understanding.

  • To secure the confidence of clients and partners – for example, by demonstrating effective use of legal skills, by adopting appropriate standard of dress, etc.

  • To demonstrate commitment to clients and the firm by giving priority to achievement of clients’ objectives.

  • To work as a team with others and form good working relationships with colleagues at all levels.

  • To provide cover for colleagues who are absent from the office.

 

GENERAL

To perform ad-hoc assignments from time to time as may be delegated by any partner.
